SOUND INTO SHAPE, RHYTHM INTO SPACE.

Bossa Jazz Fest is an annual music festival held in Finland, celebrating the blend of bossa nova and jazz through concerts, cultural programs, and community events.

The identity builds on a modular typographic system that reflects the rhythm, repetition, and improvisation of bossa nova and jazz. It turns musical elements into flexible visuals adaptable across print, digital, and merchandise.

Role

Concept development, Visual identity, Typographic system, Layout design

Scope

Poster, Ticket design, Digital assets, Merchandise applications

These keywords become the basis for a modular typographic system. The festival name is treated like notes in a score, broken into rectangular blocks and set on a strict grid. Repeated blocks echo loops, off-beat shifts suggest syncopation, and small variations within the structure act as visual improvisation.

This project breaks bossa nova and jazz down into three musical ideas:

The identity extends into tickets, social posts, and a T-shirt graphic. Each application uses the same block system at different levels of abstraction, from clear festival information to more pattern-like compositions that emphasize mood and rhythm.
